ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Asif Zardari, who was nominated by the PPP, PML-N and other allies parties, has been re-elected as the 14th president of Pakistan.
According to the final result announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan, Asif Zardari secured 411 electoral votes. His rival Mahmood Khan Achakzai got 181 electoral votes. As many as 1,044 lawmakers cast their votes. Nine votes were rejected. Out of 1,185 electoral college, 92 seats remained vacant.
In the joint session of the National Assembly and the Senate, Asif Zardari secured 255 votes while Mahmood Khan Achakzai got 119. A vote was rejected. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa will administer him the oath on Sunday.
In the Punjab Assembly, Asif Zardari mustered 246 votes, followed by Mahmood Achakzai with 100 votes. Six votes were rejected.
In the Sindh Assembly, Asif Zardari gained 151 votes while Mahmood Khan Achakzai got nine votes. A vote was rejected. However, the Jamaat-e-Islami did not take part in the election. In all, 161 MPAs participated in the election process.
In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai got 91 votes wile Asif Zardari gained 17 votes. A vote was rejected. In the Balochistan Assembly, Asif Zardari got 47 votes while Mahmood Achakzai got no vote.
After the victory of Asif Zardari, PPP workers took to streets in jubilation and chanted slogans in favour of Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto. In the Punjab Assembly, the ruling alliance celebrated the victory of Asif Zardari.
