KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a mixed performance as traders awaited insights from the upcoming monetary policy meeting, influencing the market’s potential trajectory.
Throughout the week, the benchmark KSE-100 index maintained close proximity to its all-time highs, concluding with a gain of 468 points, or 0.72 per cent week-over-week (WoW).
The week’s final session on Friday saw the index close at 65,793.76, reflecting an increase of 190.67 points, or 0.29 per cent, compared to the previous close.
The index displayed a positive trend during the day, reaching an intraday high of 66,067.53 (+464.44) and a low of 65,693.22 (+90.13) points. The total trading volume for the KSE-100 index reached 240.097 million shares.
Among the 100 index companies, 58 closed higher, 36 ended lower, 1 remained unchanged, and 5 were not traded.
Notably, Cnergyico Pk Limited’s (PSX: CNERGY) stock price witnessed a robust surge of 6.77 per cent during the session, primarily fueled by its announcement of an investment exceeding $1 billion.
The KSE-100 index found support from investment banks, investment companies, and securities companies with 106.32 points, followed by refineries with 39.28, oil and gas marketing companies with 27.36, cement with 24.9, and miscellaneous with 22.92 points.
Conversely, the index faced downward pressure from commercial banks with 82.61 points, oil and gas exploration companies with 12.5, paper and board with 4.61 points, chemicals with 3.98 points, and automobile parts and accessories with 3.28 points.
Key contributors to the index’s positive movement included DAWH with 102.61 points, EFERT with 21.49, PSEL with 18.04, SHEL with 17.3, and NRL with 15.8 points.
On the flip side, companies like UBL, MEBL, FFC, HUBC, and MCB played a role in pulling the index lower, with points ranging from 9.97 to 32.
As anticipation builds for the monetary policy meeting, traders remain vigilant, closely observing market dynamics for indications of the next major market direction.
