ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has kicked off a frantic hunt for a foreign coach for the national cricket team.

Insider sources have hinted that Shane Watson, the former Australian all-rounder and current captain of Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9, is under serious consideration for the prestigious role.

Sources suggested that PCB bigwigs have engaged in discussions with Watson regarding the coaching position, viewing him as a formidable contender. With the upcoming series against New Zealand looming large, Watson could potentially take the reins.

While Darren Sammy remains in contention for the coaching gig, Watson appears to be the frontrunner. A verdict on the coaching setup is expected imminently, ahead of Pakistan’s imminent showdown with New Zealand.

Previously, it was reported that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is keen on building a robust team management for the T20 World Cup and intends to consult former cricketers on cricket affairs.

Mohsin Naqvi, in a statement, had emphasized that new leadership often brings its own team of advisors and staff.
