Shehbaz Sharif takes oath today

ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif was sworn-in as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan today at the Awan-i-Sadr in an august ceremony attended by notable figures from across Pakistan’s political spectrum.

President Arif Alvi administered oath to the newly elected prime mininster.

Among the guests were the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, in addition to former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq was also present.

The provincial leadership was also well-represented, with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah participating in the oath-taking ceremony.

However, notable absence was observed in the form of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, whose non-attendance raised eyebrows.

The swearing-in ceremony markes a significant moment in Pakistan’s political landscape, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially assumed the mantle of leadership.
